This is a video on Frequently Ask Questions for the LIFE proposal. Part of a series of videos aiming at helping you to understand better the LIFE Programme.
In this video, we will talk about the different type of projects. More specifically the demonstration projects.
Let’s start by saying that there are different types of projects, which may be supported by the LIFE programme. The “traditional” types of projects are: Pilot, Demonstration, Best practice and Information, awareness and dissemination projects.
To start with, let’s see the definition of a demonstration project. “Demonstration projects” are projects that put into practice, test, evaluate and disseminate actions, methodologies or approaches that are new or unknown in the specific context of the project, such as the geographical, ecological and socioeconomic context, and that could be applied elsewhere in similar circumstances.
Now let’s see an example of a demonstration project:
The project comes from Cyprus and it’s called LIFE UrbanProof (Climate Proofing Urban Municipalities LIFE15 CCA/CY/000086). It aims to develop and demonstrate an innovative decision support tool for adaptation planning in the urban environment, which will provide local decision makers, stakeholders and target groups with access to visual information on climate change, vulnerability and adaptation and will present the results, step-by-step, of the whole adaptation process.
Although a number of decision support tools on vulnerability and adaptation had previously been developed, neither of these takes into account all adaptation stages. This new toolkit adopts a holistic approach for providing insight into the expected changes in climate, enhancing understanding on climate change impacts, evaluating the available adaptation options and, most importantly, for enabling informed and robust decision making.
The project has a high demonstration character as the toolkit and the results from its implementation will be demonstrated to all project stakeholders and target groups, to the partner municipalities, as well as to other municipalities of the project implementation area.
Now you know what a demonstration project is!
