LIFE Networking Event 2019, Presentations

The LIFE Cyclamen team hosted a LIFE Networking Event on December 12th, 2019, in Nicosia. This was a get-together for all kinds of potential beneficiaries for the LIFE Programme.

Public and private stakeholders from Cyprus had the opportunity to mingle and discuss with professionals from various sectors and explore the potential of future LIFE collaborations.

Who was there

Representatives from government departments, NGOs, SMEs, Universities and Municipalities were all there at this special event. We also had the pleasure of having with us Mr. Nikos Psimmenos (Climate Change Officer), our colleague from the Greek LIFE Task Force, with which the LIFE Cyclamen team has a close and strong collaboration.

Participants at this event learned about current and past Cypriot LIFE projects through a LIFE projects’ video-wall, printed information material, posters and banners. Moreover, everyone had the chance to learn firsthand about what LIFE can do through testimonials from three guest speakers with long LIFE experience.

We started our evening with a live web presentation from Ms. Beatriz del Castillo Parra. Ms. Parra talked about the year-long experience of FCC Aqualia S.A. (Spain) with LIFE projects dealing with energy and resource recovery from wastewater and wastewater treatment in Europe. Two examples of such projects are LIFE MEMORY and LIFE BIOSOL.

Then Dr. Vassilis Protonotarios from NEUROPUBLIC S.A. Greece, presented the LIFE GAIA Sense project, which aims to demonstrate the benefits and challenges of smart farming for the environment and for circular economy models. Last but not least, Mrs Paraskevi Panteli from the Association of Solid Waste Management of Crete presented the LIFE-F4F (Food for Feed) project that evaluates an innovative and simple technology to reduce food waste in the food service sector and households by transforming it into animal feed.

The outcome

Our guest speakers did not only share their experience, but they also embraced the possibility of collaboration with Cypriot stakeholders, who would like to replicate actions and results or even join together in future innovative LIFE projects.

Adding to this, new LIFE stakeholders had the opportunity to meet and chat with experienced Cypriot LIFE beneficiaries and share their concerns and thoughts. We saw many familiar faces, but also many new ones, which made us really happy as this means the LIFE family in Cyprus is getting bigger!

The Cyclamen team is dedicated to bringing closer together all potential LIFE beneficiaries and helping LIFE grow in Cyprus. Stay tuned for more events in 2020!
